The San Mateo Dawgs is a developmental and competitive fall baseball program, designed in partnership with San Mateo National Little League (“SMNLL”). Teams are formed through tryouts and evaluation during the spring Little League season, and through Summer Sandlot workouts. The Dawgs provide elements of community-based Little League development through teams participating in the SMNLL Fall Ball program, with a mix of exposure to a higher level of competition through tournament play. The aim is working towards strengthening our league as a whole and fielding the most competitive All Star Tournament teams possible.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The Dawgs reinforce the ideals of sportsmanship, teamwork, commitment, development and fun. We use our Summer Sandlot and Fall programs as a development tool for both players and coaches. Over a summer and fall period, players get significant game experience - the equivalent of a second full season - while also playing both similar skill and higher quality competition. We also leverage the increased competitiveness of the travel tournament environment to further improve and develop our players and coaches.
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT FOCUS
The focus of the Summer Sandlot and Fall Dawgs program is primarily on ensuring the kids have fun playing the game of baseball, while at the same time focusing on player development and increasing the speed of development.
Our goal is to develop and build the skillset of our players to provide the most competitive San Mateo National Little League, SMNLL All Star teams, and a potential future San Mateo Dawgs Cooperstown team.
DAWGS COACHES
Coaches in the Dawgs program will be experienced and established volunteer coaches within SMNLL, supplemented by coaches outside of SMNLL (e.g., local junior college players, SMNLL player/coach alumni, etc.).
